The SSNGM achieves its remit through the establishment, co-ordination, and support of a network structure which allocates specific areas of responsibility to a range of groups. Below details the remit of each of the network governance groups.
Oversight board
The network Oversight Board is chaired by Prof Jann Gardner, Chief Executive Officer, NHS Lanarkshire. It provides strategic leadership and decision making on the future genomics strategy for Scotland, and reports to the chief executives of NHS boards and the Scottish Government.
The Oversight Board membership can be found here.
Steering Group
The network Steering Group is co-chaired by Prof Patricia Roxburgh – Consultant Medical Oncologist SSNGM Clinical Lead – Somatic, and Dr Jonathan Berg, Clinical Reader and Honorary Consultant in Clinical Genetics and SSNGM Clinical Lead – Germline, NHS Tayside. It directs the work of the Network following requests passed down from the Oversight Board and recommendations of the Genomics Transformation Team. It acts as a forum for discussion and advice for others within the network, for example if a particular working group requires advice or support to achieve its objective(s).
The Steering Group membership can be found here.
Patient Involvement Advisory Group
The SSNGM has established a patient involvement advisory group to ensure patient and public engagement across the SSNGM. The group will be co-chaired by Natalie Frankish, Genetic Alliance UK, and Caroline Donoghue, Scottish Cancer Coalition.
The membership can be found here.
Communities of Interest
The Communities of Interest are groups (previously known as facets) of experts who have been supporting the work of the network. They play an essential role in driving forward delivery plans and can be called to provide expert advice on specific areas of the network, be a part of working groups, or help with strategy implementation.
They are 6 Communities of Interest : Cancer – Solid Tumours, Laboratory Genetics, Education & Workforce, Ethics & Consent , Rare & inherited Disease, Cancer – Haemato-Oncology. When required, members of the network will be invited to participate or nominate an expert to join groups driving forward the objectives of the network. The membership of the Communities of Interest will continue to grow with the network, and we would like to thank all of you who provide your invaluable expertise.
Working Groups
Working groups are commissioned pending on the current priorities of the network (See our work page) and following recommendations from the Genomics Transformation Team and the Steering Group. Each working group has a dedicated lead person and is formed using representatives from the relevant Communities of Interests (previously known as facets) depending on the subject matter and the set objective.
Core Groups
These are permanent network groups and will be formed by members with expertise in that given area. The remit and deliverables of each group will be clearly defined and aligned to the network workplan and documented in the group Terms of Reference. The involvement of individuals from the Communities of Interest provides subject matter expertise.
Education and Workforce Group – chaired by Prof Zosia Miedzybrodzka, Honorary Consultant Clinical Geneticist & Service Clinical Director- Genetics NHS Grampian. The membership can be viewed here.
